Sarova Stanley, known originally as the Stanley Hotel, was founded in 1902 by Mayence Bent when Nairobi was just a railway stop, making it the city's oldest hotel. It takes its name from Sir Henry Morton Stanley, the Welsh explorer known for finding David Livingstone and for his travels across central Africa. The hotel has long been a gathering place for safari travellers, writers, politicians and public figures.
